GUIDELINES

One of our purposes is to encourage authors to continue writing Voyager fanfic. Contests frequently serve as an incentive for authors. Authors who support contests help provide a forum for new stories. The League is open for any writer of Star Trek Voyager fanfic who is actively supporting Voyager fanfic contests by entering. See the Join page for complete details on membership.

To be eligible for VFFL points a contest: must be related to Voyager; must be publically announced: must be open to any author; and must determine its winners by the vote of the readers. Only awards announced prior to the first day of voting will earn VFFL points. The sole exception to the "open to any author" rule continues to be Launching Pad, a contest that is open only to authors who have not yet won other contests.

If a member of the League finds a contest that has a restriction similar to Launching Pad's, they or the contest operator must clear it with the League owner prior to the contest opening to vote or it will not be eligible for VFFL points.

In the past, contests have awarded varying number of prizes. In prior year, points were given for all awards. Allowing for many places meant that entry points were kept to a minimum. 

In an effort to equalize the points earned in contests and to increase the relative number of points earned for entering, the number of awards that will earn VFFL points will be:

If a contest issues an overall award and category awards, the overall award will be ignored unless there was a separate ballot listing all stories from all the categories or unless the overall winner is not mathematically the story with the most votes in a single category or the sum of all votes in the categories. This means the owner of the contest must be willing to describe the method used to determine the overall awards to the VFFL owner. It is up to the League members to request the contest owner submit the information to the VFFL owner.

If a contest is entered by 'nomination' rather than by the author, VFFL entry points will not be awarded. 'Nomination' means a person other than the author submits the story to the contest.

If a contest's results are determined by a panel of one or more judges rather than by the vote of readers, it is not a contest for purposes of VFFL.
